English: The arms are identical to the arms of the Amt Rhede, granted on April 13, 1939; the present arms were granted on September 26, 1968. The first and fourth quarter show the arms of the Lords of Rhede, the oldest known owners of the local castle. The name of the town is also derived from this family. The second quarter shows a shuttle as a symbol for the textile industry in the town. The third shows a plowshare as a symbol for the agriculture. |
