English: The arms were granted in 1890. They are derived from the arms of the counts of Blankenheim-Gerolstein and are nearly identical to the arms of Blankenheim (Ahr). Gerhard von Blankenheim founded Gerolstein in 1330, and the village received city rights already in 1336. The counts of Blankenheim-Gerolstein ruled the village until 1423. |
