English: Pictured in Central Jerusalem, Koresh Street, behind the Central Post Office, a remaining British cast-iron pillar box, installed during the British Mandate of Palestine (1917-1948). Before the State of Israel was created in 1948, a British royal cipher was displayed on the door of the pillar box (in this instance, probably that of King George V). This insignia was subsequently ground off after Israel gained independence. |
