TaʼrifAmsterdam City Hall from west 2.jpg
English: Amsterdam City Hall, located at 61 Church Street in Amsterdam, New York, includes the former Sanford Mansion, laundry building, and carriage house. The original Sanford Mansion was built in the 2nd Empire Style in 1869 as the home of Stephen Sanford, an industrialist, carpet manufacturer, horse breeder, and philanthropist. Inherited by his son John as part of his $40M estate upon Stephen Sanford's death in 1913, the mansion underwent an extensive $1M renovation and remodeling 1913-1917, approximately doubling its size. It was deeded to the city by John Sanford in memory of his father specifically for use as the city hall in 1932.
